Australia: what will it actually cost, landed?

Duty, GST and Luxury Car Tax are each charged on a different value. We break out every line — and show the one thing calculators usually miss: GST is charged on a base that includes your freight and insurance.

Under the Customs Tariff, Japanese-origin cars are duty-free (Schedule 11), but only with origin documentation — a car built in Thailand or elsewhere does not qualify. Without an origin claim the general rate applies: 5% for most used passenger cars (free for used petrol cars of 1,000–1,500 cc and used diesels up to 1,500 cc).

LCT only matters for expensive cars: it applies to the GST-inclusive value above the threshold.

Default (about A$270) = ABF import processing charge A$152 (A$50 if the consignment is under A$10,000) + biosecurity charge A$71 (sea) + older-vehicle import approval application about A$42 + RAV entry charge A$7.20. Asbestos testing, workshop compliance (SEVS cars), state inspection and registration are NOT included.
